How To Get A New Car At MSRP Or Without A Mark Up

Posted on: 12 October 2022

Are you in the market for a new car but you are balking at some of the prices you are current seeing? The pandemic and other world events have done a number on a number of different industries, and the auto industry is one clear area where supply is struggling to match demand. This has resulted in some vehicles becoming difficult to find at MSRP or without a dealer markup. Difficult, but not impossible. Here are some tips if you would like to try and get a new vehicle at MSRP or for as good of a price as you can.

Call Multiple Dealers and Get an Idea of What's Going on With Local Pricing

Whether or not a dealer is marking up new vehicles is really dependent on each individual dealer. Don't be afraid to make multiple phone calls and ask how long the wait time is and what the markup is if any for the specific car you want. You may have to drive a bit to a dealer in a different town or city to find what you want at MSRP, but there are some dealers out there who are not doing markups if you are patient enough to put in the homework and find them.

Walk Into the Dealership With a Decent Trade-In and Good Credit or Be Otherwise Ready to Buy Immediately If Your Desired Car Is Available

Another way you may be able to buy a car quickly and for a good price is if you walk onto the lot ready to buy and get lucky with the current inventory. Many new cars are on special order because of various shortages, but if you find out that a car you covet is available for sale today, walk in quickly and put your cards on the table. Having a used car in good condition for trade-in that the dealer believes they can make money on will go a long way towards helping you avoid a markup on the car you are buying. Good credit, as always, also helps if you will be financing. Walk in and make it clear you intend to buy a vehicle from at least someone in town today and see what happens. If the dealer knows it's a guaranteed sale, you might be able to push for a good price.

Use Your Knowledge of the Local Market to Push Back Against Optional Packages You Don't Need

While some dealers are directly marking up the cars with the words "markup" right on the price tag, another way some are choosing to capitalize on the current market is by putting optional packages like window tinting or better tires on most vehicles that come in. It's really up to the art of negotiation, but it may be possible to go down the list of features and push hard to get the dealer to remove optional items you don't really need.

To find a new car, such as a new Kia Optima, talk to a dealer in your area.

A Sensible Sedan

My parents presented me with a small red sports car when I turned 16. For the next few years, I enjoyed speeding down the highway in this beautiful car. However, when I graduated college, I desired a different type of vehicle. I wanted to begin my professional career by purchasing a sensible sedan. After several trips to a few local dealerships, I decided to buy a midsize white sedan. I’ve never regretted my decision. This amazing car is still running after being driven for the past 13 years. It now has nearly 250,000 miles on it. Other than regular maintenance, the car hasn’t needed any work done on it. On this blog, you will discover the benefits of buying a reliable sedan.
